23 August 2021Richibucto, June 30, 2021—The Kent Regional Service Commission (KRSC) and the Richibucto RCMP are proud to announce the return of the “positive ticketing” program for its third edition starting on Thursday, July 1, 2021. The purpose of this initiative is to develop healthy and safe habits among youth in Kent County, in addition to forging positive ties with the RCMP.
During the summer and fall of 2021, police officers in the region will distribute “tickets” to young people demonstrating good behaviour, which they can then exchange for a reward in a local business. All positive ticket recipients will also have their names added to grand prizes draw in the fall. The behaviours for which a young person could receive a ticket include but are not limited to acting safely, doing an act of kindness, or showing pride in their region. Some more concrete examples of gestures observed in 2019 and 2020, and which will be further researched this year, is the wearing of a protective helmet or seat belt, using a pedestrian crossing, holding the door for someone, or following COVID-19-related guidelines.
The two organizations recognize the importance of strengthening good behaviour and creating positive links between the community and the constables of our regional RCMP detachment. “People are becoming aware of the program and are looking forward to its return with the end of classes. The past two years have been extremely positive for everyone involved: the RCMP, local businesses, city halls and the youth who have been awarded. It’s a great way to connect with our communities!” Confirms Jean-François LeBlanc, Community Program Officer for the Southeast RCMP.
